What could be a greater threat than terrorism? How about abuses of power by the government we are supposed to count on to protect us and our freedoms?
It's one thing to fear an outside force, but what about living in fear of your own government and/or law enforcement?
Law enforcement seems to be more and more often abusing their powers in the name of "protecting" the citizens they are supposed to be "public servants" to.
I've lost track of the number of cases I've seen in just the last year of people the police have shot and killed who were unarmed and in many cases not even breaking any laws. Then being protected by the judicial systems they have perverted and destroyed.
That said, of course there are amazing men and women who protect and serve in law enforcement who do an amazing job... and for those we should all be grateful. How ever that does not mean that because many if not most do a great job that we should turn a blind eye to or excuse those who are abusing their positions.
It is unfair and unbalanced to go to either extreme and say that "all" of any group is good or bad. That's impossible. As intelligent people we must be able to recognize both the good AND the bad of any group, situation, or topic.
I think we ought to pass into legislation new laws protecting citizens from abuses of power of ANY kind. Whether that's law enforcement or any office of the government where their employees abuse their powers against citizens.
These people drunk with power are destroying the bill of rights and the constitution, and they are far more responsible for the loss of freedoms and quality of life that we are supposed to have in this country than any foreign terrorist ever has.
Terrorism is defined as:
Violent or destructive acts committed by groups in order to
intimidate a population into granting their demands.
So what do you call an abuse of power by those who are armed and given the responsibility to protect us.
Are these abuses of power the new terrorism?
